Why every bassist LOVES Duff McKagan
Просмотров 40 тыс.16 часов назад
Duff McKagan is a man of many talents. When he’s not wielding a bass on vast stages in Guns N' Roses, you’ll find him channelling his thoughts into books and newspaper columns, practising martial arts, guesting on A-lister’s albums, advising musicians on wealth management, and - of course - adding to his own catalogue of stellar solo material. There are some rock ‘n’ roll stories that you just ...

Why you SHOULDN’T play a 4-string bass…?
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.21 день назад
So many classic albums were made using a 4-string bass, and players like Jaco and James Jamerson only needed four strings, but there are some bass greats, like Anthony Jackson, Thundercat, Oteil Burbridge and John Patitucci, who would go to any length to avoid being stuck with a 4-string. Here’s why… ► Download the film here: vimeo.com/ondemand/beneaththebassline/517383268 Follow Beneath the Ba...

The Jon Reshard Interview: The LA Bassist EVERYONE’S talking about.
People must like you
horrible music. couldn't even be bothered to use bass tracks for a movie trailer on bass players
I was leaving a nice restaurant here in Seattle about 3 weeks back and Duff drove right past me in the parking garage.
He probably knows who he is because everytime they played Live and let die, his bank account grows😂
It is cool on the Big Band records for one example, how Dave will give you super solid bass when you want it and then go outside everything at incredible times, he mixes it so well.
I saw DH with Sonny Rollins and once with Joe Henderson. Al Foster on drums both times. As great as it gets.
Duff is a great story teller indeed
I don't remember the circumstances, but my brother said he met Duff in Seattle back in the 80s or 90s. There are (or were) a lot of musicians in the area. Given the number of professional musicians I used to know and jam with, I'm probably one person away from any of them.
Im a bassist...i dont love duffy... i love steve harris..
Who’s Paul McCartney?
Love the Duff
Dave’s work with Sam Rivers and Barry Altschul in the 70s was stellar. That trio gave one of the very best performances I’ve ever witnessed in 50 years of concert-going.
I hope Duff got his degree,
Crackie
Yeah see he’s cool. A rock star
he doesn't sound sober. just my opinion...
wow, never even heard Dave Holland talk before. Dave is one of the greatest as far as I'm concerned
Confirmed. I'm a bassist and I love Duff McKagan.
Miles was such a great person. We used to have him babysit our kids, and we loved watching him dressed up as the Easter Bunny in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Once he beat a clarinet player to death with his trumpet for playing the wrong note. Miles never cared for the reed section.
Whenever I think of Duff McKagen, I think about how he survived his exploding pancreas, replaced booze with mountain biking, and lived to tell the tale.
I’m glad he is still alive. Too many guys didn’t make it. Good job Duff!!
Humble and a great bass player! 2 thumbs up!👍👍
I completely dislike your misleading title. I play the guitar, and I fuckin' love Duff more than most bassists out there ever will...
I love the session he did with Jane's Addiction.
Because he rules the GnR basselines.
its the hair, like a rock star
Paul McCartney didn't even know Nirvana until he had to play with the living remaining members. Maybe Macca really liked that rendition of "Live and Let Die." But seriously, "they're around because..." *THEY DIDN'T FRIGGING KILL THEMSELVES OR GET SHOT BY A RANDO.*
Love Duff. He’s the best. Heart of GOLD.
so for many years, I had zero respect for McKagan; he had latched himself onto a hair metal band that made it but his playing was "sufficient" at best (to my ears, as a long time bassist). Many years later, I heard an interview with him where I was stunned by how pleasant, humble and intelligent he was. After parking my car at work, I sat and listed to the whole thing and was glad I did. He may be no Jaco, but I decided I really liked old Duff. Good guy.
Which metal band was that? I know he was in a hard rock / AOR band named after Tracii Guns and Waxl Rose, but I'm struggling to think of a metal band he was in. There weren't even an that many ‘hair metal’ bands, but Manowar, Dio, Ozzy, and Pantry spring to mind.
@@creamwobbly in the '80s, GnR was about as metal as it got - for at least my tastes. My guess is that you're one of those "genre" fanatics. Good on you. Just relax. no one cares what you think metal is.
duff you play RHanded yes? did you switch from LH as a kid or always played RH?
Great Bassist, great guy, and a true survivor. I still say "exploding pancreas" would make a hell of a punk band name😂😂😂
I love Duff, great man great player and his recovery story is inspiring.
First time hearing him in 20 Years and his voice doesn't shake even close to how it used to. Really gives you hope; addiction will never go away but it can get better.
Yup. Most of the pricks are nowhere and/or no one wants to know them. Being a musician is NO reason to cop an attitude. Every time someone asked me for an autograph, I'd asked them why? I'd tell them I was _better at wood picking int he paper mill I worked at than I am on guitar and no one wanted my autograph then'._ I always loved the reactions that question got!
How fucked up was he that he couldn’t remember his belt getting stuck to the metal grate stage while he tried to play bass ? 🧐
imagine reaction videos by famous rockers eg slash , motley crew , Aerosmith etc to the spinal tap movies , could be a whole new you tube genre
Somebody needs to give this man a bottle of shampoo!
Signing LEFT HANDED??? Apparently writes left handed and plays right! Just like Joe Strummer!!😱😱😱
Every broke bassist loves Duff McKagan because he invested his small fortune to make a large fortune.
They're not broke! They're temporarily financially embarrassed!
Butter notes.
Miles once told me the world was gonna roll me
Total Keanu vibes
Duff Man likes his belts. OHYeahh!
Hahahaha
Cool story!!!
it's nice to see Duff got off the drugs and booze.....that wasn't likely to end well otherwise....25 years sober this August....
Are you his nanny ?
Alcohol-induced pancreatitis is helpful in a way, because you know that once you've had it, you have to stop drinking or you'll die. Rex from Pantera was in the same boat.
A bassist, a kickboxer and an author. There is a second chance for everybody.
It would be funny if McCartney knew Duffs name because somebody told him the story about his belt getting stuck to the stage.
The question is, why we never hate this coolest person in the world?
Yea, but like.. this is the same dude who inexplicably thinks Duff Beer in the Simpsons was named after him for… some reason.
The reason was he was the best and every one love him including Simpsons writers 😂😮
That's a really cool book. Addiction is no joke. Thanks Duff.
